QUOTES + NOTES

“Pain that will not be transformed, will always be transmitted” Richard Rohr (Heard Brene Brown quote him)

“The more you talk about it, the more you think about it, the further from it you go; STOP TALKING STOP THINKING AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND”- Seng-ts’an

“I used to think that spiritual meant super natural, and I was allergic to that, I didn’t believe in the super natural. But the opposite of spiritual isn’t super natural it’s egotistical.” - Michael Pollen

“The thing that creates problems is everyone’s hangup with their own attachment with some kind of belief with the way it ought to be” - (From the documentary Magic Trip)

"Authenticity is a practice...you need to choose it everyday, sometimes every hour" ?

"What ever follows “I am“ will eventually find you." - Joel Osteen (heard on podcast)

"Perfectionism is fear, in really good shoes." - Elizabeth Gilbert (heard on podcast)

“Your mind creates your reality” Ram Dass

"It is so much easier to cause pain then feel pain." Brene Brown

“The intimacy of shared awareness” Ram Dass

"Our children are not our easels in which we get to paint the life we never had." - Chefali Tsabery (heard on podcast)

"You cannot selectively numb emotion. When you use something (drinking, smoking, shopping, gaming) to take the edge off, you take the edge off the tip of the pain as well as the tip of any joy you could feel. I’m for real comfort and not comfort based on numbing” -Brene brown (heard on podcast)

"Water the root of the tree and the water will make its way to all parts" ?

"A seed planted today doesn’t sprout until months later." ?

"When grieving, it can feel like the pouring of love coming your way is going in one end and out the other of a bottomless well, but imagine if the well is just very very deep and it will take a long time for it to fill, but it will one day." -paraphrased from Ram Dass

"Every breath you ever took is in the past. This second is already gone and done. This is why you should live in the moment. " _ Ekarht Tolle on podcast (I think)

This life is beautiful and tragic, and the two do not cancel each other out “ a TED talk called “Everything happens for a reason” And Other Lies I have Loved

You do not “move on” from grief, you move forward. You take it with you and let it change the way you see things. You don’t put that person and the memories and experiences in the past, they stay with you while you move forward.

"It is your ego that writes and enforces a destructive narrative. The ego is defensive by definition, it builds walls. If you can separate yourself from the ego you allow yourself to feel more connected." ?

The lamp is your body; it can be beautiful, interesting, ugly, short, it has its on unique look. The lightbulb is the brain and is also unique. But all that really matters is the electricity that flows through it. (Someone touches on this on a podcast I listened to)

"Your right hand wouldn’t thank your left hand for helping the body as a whole." _Ram Dass from Be Here Now

My Own Conclusions

It’s all a practice. Practice getting into the routine of doing the things that make you happy. Practice being aware, and noticing your thoughts.  Practice gratitude, practice authenticity, practice listening, practice patience. Practice noticing your ego!

Religion seems to be an ideology while spirituality is not - if you do not believe what we do, then your wrong (religion) while spirituality is all inclusive. To be spiritual you don’t have to join anything or be associated with one thing.

Listening to people gives you the opportunity to connect with them

Our kids, my girls, may not be exactly like we are, but they at least know it’s an option. Be good to yourself, be kind to yourself, be confident and loving so the girls know what that looks like.

Control your thoughts, don’t let your thoughts control you.

Your body and your mind are very separate but there is no greater relationship

Even if your confident and willing to share yourself, your audience may not be deserving of knowing you.

The people that judge everyone are just as hard on themselves.

During the times we feel like we aren't being heard, we should stop and make sure we are listening.
